X is replacing Creator Revenue Sharing with Original Content Rewards. The useful question is not “can I use AI?” It is “what did I add that could only have come from me?”

What changed
X stopped accepting new Creator Revenue Sharing members on August 7, 2026. Existing members can earn through September 7. The replacement starts rolling out on September 8.
The new program pays for qualified Home Timeline impressions on original work. X says that work should reflect your voice, perspective, expertise, or creativity.
The line X is trying to draw
Commentary is allowed. Copying with cosmetic changes is not. The hard part is deciding where AI assistance ends and portable slop begins.

A real example from my own post
I read Paul Graham's essay about how universities should prepare founders. The generated draft summarized my reaction. It did not yet contain enough of me.
Indian startup schools charge ₹50L to teach you how to build a company.
It had a strong claim, emoji bullets, a familiar IIT-versus-school contrast, and a “take notes” ending. It was clean. It was also portable.
Another founder could have posted the same draft without changing its center of gravity.

The difference was not better phrasing
The difference was local stakes, a comparison I believed, calibrated uncertainty, and a conclusion for a specific reader.
AI helped me find a shape. Authorship came from deciding what I actually thought and what I was willing to stand behind.

A practical AI-assisted workflow
- 1. Start with the source. Write down the part that bothered, surprised, or changed your mind.
- 2. Generate options. Use AI for angles and structure, not a final opinion.
- 3. Add what the model cannot know. Your example, market, memory, comparison, or constraint.
- 4. Calibrate the claim. Say what you know. Mark what you infer. Remove fake certainty.
- 5. Read it as a stranger. If any competent account could publish it unchanged, it is not done.
